Social Change Tool Kit

This kit includes an overview of the Media Arts Academy curriculum and a packet of media works DVD's and powerpoint graphic art that can be used as teaching tools. Select 4 teaching tools from the list of products that will customize YOUR kit.

"Media Literacy" Critical examination of images that bombard viewers while perpetuating stereotypes, bias, and prejudices. Includes a two-day lesson plan for instructors.

"Racism Through The Eyes of Youth" 14 diverse youth (ages 11-18 y/o) from 10 different schools and 5 different cities spend 6 consecutive Saturdays exploring racism through the lens of media. Personal, group and community member interviews plus classes and workshop footage.

"We Speak Life" Infant mortality, co-morbidities and staggering health disparities between African-American and Caucasian teens.

"Vocabulary Associated w/Racism"- Graphic arts teaching tool on powerpoint designed to visually demonstrate the side effects of racism in vocabulary.

"Dismantling Racism Goes to Middle School" A two-day interactive session with 6th graders of a Creative Writing Class. Instructor assigned essays in advance and led discussions that prepared them for this teaching.

"Migrant Story" Dispels myths and stereotypes associated with migrant workers and their families in search of an improved quality of life.

"Teen Pregnancy" Naked truths of teenage pregnancy, parenting choices and challenges. Teen fathers and mothers along with health educators and community members share their experiences.

"School Retention" Reasons to account for the alarming dropout rates are shared through the eyes of youth as they present different angles to be considered.

"Out of Edison" Focuses upon the topics of poverty, health and violence as students share interviews and findings in search of answers to the questions associated with community restoration.

"Teen Violence" Statistics, tips, realities and role plays around what lead to and prevents teen violence.  Interviews of community members who work in the trenches shed light on this volatile and often deadly subject.

"Anti-Bias Education Goals" This graphic arts teaching tool helps to visualize what happens in a classroom where there is an absence of equity. Shedding light on the rights of all students and the responsibility of all educators.
